Everyone wants to go to New York City, or Miami or Los Angeles! What they don’t know is that nestled along the Ohio River is a hidden gem. Louisville, KY is not most people’s first choice when planning a trip to the United States, but it should be! Culture and flare abound through our great music, theater, and arts scene!
Last year, musical artists such as Pink, Elton John, and Maroon 5 took the stage in downtown Louisville, and next month, we welcome Cher among us! Not only do a lot of artists come here because we have great venues, but we also produce our fair share! Kentucky boasts of great musicians such as My Morning Jacket, Mary Travers of Peter, Paul and Mary, and John Prine, a Kentucky legend! When there isn’t a big show in town, local artists perform nightly around the city, so there is always a place to enjoy great music.
The theater is another fun way to soak in the Louisville culture. With Actor’s Theater of Louisville, the Brown Theater and the Kentucky Center for the Arts, there plenty of places to take in not only local theater but big shows such as Hamilton
, Hello Dolly!
or The Book of Mormon
. If you’re adventurous, you could even audition for your own part on the stage!
If you’d rather go out and about, First Friday is the best time to take in the downtown and NULU (as in new Louisville) art scene. With free trolley rides between Main Street and Frankfort Avenue, you won’t get tired as you stroll the streets and visit the many galleries that are open to the public. You can sample all of the unique flavors of Comfy Cow ice cream and warm up with a hot cup of coffee at Vint. When you’re ready for dinner, you can take advantage of specials at several of the local eateries along your way.
With all of the great options available, whether you decide to hop on a trolley, take in a show, or hit the music venues, Louisville will prove to you that it’s a very cool place to hang out!
