Short Term Study in the USA

Short-term programs are a great way to experience American culture and build language skills.  ESLI offers programs that transform English language learning into a dynamic and interactive experience.  Students will study to improve their English skills, but more than that, they will become active members on campus and within the local community.

Our goal is to connect our students with the community in which they are studying, whether that’s through trips to local attractions, conversation hour over coffee, specialized tutoring or sharing customs between cultures.  Students leave our program with lifelong friendships, wonderful memories, and unique experiences that they carry with them as they pursue their long-term goals.  These programs are intended to give people of all ages an opportunity to have a short experience in the USA and still work on their English language skills.  Programs can also have a variety of specialized courses included which allows students to enhance their educational experience in their field of study. Specialized courses could include studying local business techniques, improving knowledge of nursing methodology, and providing a comprehensive guide to teaching English as a second language.

During my tenure at ESLI, I’ve been fortunate enough to have the opportunity to work on short-term program development for the US.  We’ve seen a number of different short-term groups come to our U.S. campuses during that time – Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, University of Minnesota Duluth, and Western Kentucky University.  Each group brought a unique dynamic to our campuses and the local community.  Students were able to experience local culture and attractions and make lifelong friends.  Students at SIUE were able to visit the St. Louis zoo and learn about Abraham Lincoln at the Lincoln Presidential Museum and Library.  Students at UMD learned how to carve pumpkins for Halloween and experienced apple picking in the snow!  Students at WKU visited Mammoth Cave National Park and went horseback riding!

Each of our campuses is exceptional and can offer an amazing, once-in-a-lifetime experience for you!  I love what Karla Espinosa Bocanegra, from our Fall 2016 group at Western Kentucky University, said when I asked her about her experience at WKU.  “Studying at ESLI at WKU has been one of the best experiences in my life. It is a big opportunity not only to learn the language but to learn about other cultures and get to know different people from many countries.”

If you’re interested in joining a short-term program, please reach out to our team at shorttermUSA@esli-intl.com.  We look forward to welcoming you to one of our campuses very soon!
