I am from Azerbaijan, a Muslim country, where the lifestyle is completely different from the American and European one. In fall 2004, I decided to attend ESLI at McNeese State University. The best thing about ESLI is that it is not separate from the university but on the same campus. Attending classes not only improves your English, especially listening comprehension problems that many international students face, but it also helps you to become closely familiar with the university life. For the first time in my life, I experienced living on campus in a dorm and being a part of an American University. Besides that, the teaching process and relationship between teachers and students and students and students at ESLI are completely different. It is more interactive , lively, motivating, and friendly. Before coming to the USA, I thought I was very sociable and could deal with different people easily. However, it was true just with people from my country. Thanks to ESLI, I learned to deal and communicate with people of different cultures and with different backgrounds. In ESLI, you study in a group where students are at least from six different countries. It is very interesting and exciting. Certainly, you widen your world out-look and learn to be open yourself to changes.
